The past few days the wind has been howling. Driving around I noticed quite a few flags snapping sharply in the strong gusts. I was amazed that they weren’t being torn to shreds.
It seemed like it would be fun to capture photos of some of these flags so I drove to a location where several were in the same block. I was having a very difficult time standing still in the wind. In order to capture the flying flags and prevent my movement from blurring the images I shot in shutter priority with the speed set to 1/1000 sec. The sun was out and the sky was blue with wispy white clouds so there was plenty of light. At an ISO of 200 most of the aperture settings were f/8 or f/11.
Two of the flags above were on cranes at a nearby construction site, one was at the Red Cross (obviously), and the combination of the US flag and the State of Wisconsin flag along with their shadows was taken in front of the DMV. In addition to taking these photos, I also took my wife’s advice and didn’t wear a hat. Had I worn one, it would be miles away by now.
