It was upsetting to read today that the Mission San Xavier del Bac, located south of Tucson, was vandalized. The vandalism was discovered this morning (4/7/16). The Mission, which has been at this location since the late 1700s, has been undergoing a renovation for quite some time. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the exterior. This is still, however, a sad setback.
Robbery and murder are much worse crimes, but vandalism always seems like a frustrating event. It all seems so senseless. I must admit, however, that this news may not have caught my attention had it not been for the fact that we just visited this Mission about a year ago. We were on our way to the Tucson airport at the end of a vacation and, since we has some extra time, we decided to stop and look around. We did not take an official tour but we were allowed to walk around the grounds and through the church.
I think this is a beautiful spot in the desert. If you’re in Tucson, I’d recommend that you visit the Mission San Xavier del Bac.
