On the ice

It’s been quite a mild winter in the Midwest; December was one of the warmest on record.  Some were wondering if the lakes would freeze.  Well, we finally got some cold weather in the past couple of weeks and that was enough to cap the lakes with enough ice to draw out the ice fishers, ice skaters, and ice boaters.  The skaters and boaters were out because we’re behind normal in snowfall, which means the lakes are relatively smooth and free of snow.

The weekend weather was mild so I walked down to Lake Mendota with some of my family to check out the ice.  My wife and son enjoyed skating.  My son also pulled his wife and their dog around on a sled.  I just wandered around, watched some ice boats, and took a few photos.  A good time was had by all.
