The holiday season is always busy so it should come as no surprise that I haven’t posted anything new in a while. One of the things that kept me busy this year was working on a book. I’ve written about making photo books before (see Book ’em, Danno). Unlike my previous books, however, this was not just a set of photographs, it was a story illustrated with my photographs. That required a lot more effort.
The book is entitled Auntie Min’s Pickles and I made it as a gift for my sister. It is essentially a recipe for making dill pickles but it includes information about my family and a bit of humor about making my favorite dill pickles. The challenge was to take photographs that would show what I was describing while still being interesting as photographs. I think that some of them do that job quite well, but, of course, I’m not an unbiased judge.
