Imagine that you’re watching talented dancers performing beautiful and graceful moves. Then imagine that the dance floor is tilted until it is vertical. The dancers continue to perform, but now their moves are amazing. They leap almost effortlessly into the air and twirl about before returning to the “floor.” That’s Bandaloop. According to their website, “BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and the art of climbing to turn the dance floor on its side.”
One beautiful weekend last month we were fortunate to see Bandaloop dance on the UW-Madison Memorial Union. As we watched from the ground, the performers descended from the roof on ropes and, standing parallel to the ground, they began to dance. For some numbers all six members danced. At other times only two or three danced. The performances ranged from the graceful to the humorous.
I’ve never been one to enjoy watching dance, but if you have the opportunity to see Bandaloop I would heartily recommend that you check them out. If you don’t have a chance to see them, check out the large gallery below, which shows select images from their entire performance.
